Melda Camuscu
Composer and choir conductor. Choir and solfege instructor at the MSFAU Istanbul State Conservatory; a Ministry of Culture award-winning composer and conductor of Pulse Ensemble.
Biography
She was born in Antalya in 2002. She began music in the Children’s Choir of the IBS Conservatory under the direction of Prof. Ahter Destan, and for 12 years took part in its children’s, youth and mixed choirs. She graduated first in her class from the Music Department of the Antalya Fine Arts High School.
In 2020 she was admitted to the Composition Department of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory and completed her graduation in 2025. There she studied composition and counterpoint with Ozkan Manav and composition with Mehmet Nemutlu.
In 2024, she won third prize with her work titled Gozgu at the Hikmet Simsek Polyphonic Choral Work Composition Competition organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkiye. This work was performed in December 2025 by the Ministry of Culture State Polyphonic Choir under the direction of Burak Onur Erdem. In the same year, she was selected as the only Turkish participant in the European Youth Choir’s 2025 Spain season, where she took part in the alto section.
In 2025, she pioneered the founding of the Pulse Ensemble together with young musicians, taking on the artistic direction and conducting of the group. In the same year, she began teaching choir and solfege at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory. In 2025-2026 she has conducted the SANSEV Chamber Choir, and she continues her choral conducting studies with Prof. Ahter Destan and Dr. Nikolay Merdzhanov.
